How to Create a Beautiful Outfit

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

I must begin this piece by stating that it is in my vortex to be dressed in exactly the manner I've chosen for myself, in beautiful clothes of high quality fabrics that feel good against my skin, and genuinely bring joy to me. Accompanied by beautiful, crystal accessories that flow with my outfit and resonate with or support how I am feeling.

Self love has been a focus of my life for years, and it is such a blessing that there is an abundance of books, resources, blogs, entire internet accounts devoted to healing inner child and practicing healthy boundaries and other aspects of self love. And I hate to break it to you, reader friend, but fashion is vital aspect of my self love. Perhaps it is my inner rebel, my teenage self who wants to be seen as different and unique, and I must tend to my inner teenager. Or maybe it is the compassionate aspects of me, finding other ways to make a statement that are not harmful to others. My outfits are my self expression. When I don't know how I'm feeling, I can often look to my clothes and see what is coming through. Jeans and a t-shirt, maybe I'm feeling simple today, undercover, as my sister likes to call it. Maybe I'm not in the mood to attract attention or make any kind of statement, maybe i am neutral. Whatever-- clothing is a simple act of self love for me. My inner feminine is a maximalist fashionista and longs to make a statement, she demands attention. And while I am at a different stage in my life where I mostly keep opinions to myself, i've found fashion to be a fulfilling creative outlet for my own expression. So I present to you, how to create the perfect outfit.

In the realm of Miss Becoming, it is all intuitive. I'm often asking myself, "what do I feel like wearing?" and that is the first step: get in front of your closet and ask the question, what do i feel like wearing? How can i make my now the most pleasurable experience as possible? The softest, newest socks and beautiful undergarments. The comfiest and cutest. From skin to surface, I want the best of the best that I have access to.

Step number 2 is the base. Find the most comfortable base layer that you can continuously turn too. Foreshadowing the fact that it's all about layers. Find a longsleeve or a tank top that you love the best, and buy one in every color, or buy 6 of the same top. Who cares, it's a base layer and the best part about fashion is that there are no rules.

Step 3 is statements. And by the way, all the steps kind of meld together-- remember, there are no rules, do this in whatever order you like best. Find at least one, but preferably 2 or 3, statement pieces for your look. This could be a bold patterned cardigan, flared patterned pants, an embroidered or psychedelic top, whatever. Then this is the key-- match by COLOR, not pattern. The more patterns the better!! Catch your eye on two or three colors in your statements, and then blend. Match the black and white checkered pants with a white and lavender striped button down, and bring in lavender platform crocs with colorful jibits. You could wear black jeans with a blue, yellow and green patterned cardigan, with the same black and white checkered pants, and white and black wing-tips. See what i'm saying? It's an art.

Step 4 is all about the details. The accessories, and get creative with it: earrings in your hair, necklaces hung between belt loops, and as many braids as possible. Rings if they don't turn fingers blue, two pairs of different height socks, if that's what you're into. This is where it all comes together.

That's all I got. That's my take on creating the perfect outfit. One last thing, the most important thing, and I cannot stress this enough: the more going on, the better.
