Sacred Mornings

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

In December of 2021, my younger sister asked me what my 2022 intentions were. Inspired, I took some time on the beach, to ponder what I wanted out of my 25th year around the sun. I had just moved back to my hometown in Michigan, and I was set on passing through to my next adventure. I wasn't sure what I was doing back in Michigan, but after nearly 7 years of living elsewhere, something within me knew it was time to return home for a time, to reset and regroup, focusing on the external factors of healing my root chakra. Home, security, family and support. Above all, I had, and still have, a growing fire desire for true joy.

I intend to create sacred mornings.

So here, I will teach you the ways of Miss Becoming: How to create a sacred morning.

The foundation of any morning is waking up, of course. Opening my eyes and looking around, wherever it is I am awakening. Noticing light and art if it's around (art is always there), and feeling Well Being flow through me. As long as I possibly can, I bask in the flowing energy of love and light and Well Being-- source energy if you will. You see, when we sleep, all momentum halts. The moment we awaken is the most powerful moment of the day, because we can deliberately choose what vibrational groove, or mood, we would like to hop into. I like the choice of appreciation. Appreciate the rest I've granted my "meat suit," as my mom and many others so poetically calls these Physical bodies, appreciate any light that may be streaming in, or appreciate the cloudy skies granting a slowness to my morning. Appreciate my approaching cat or the soft sound of air released from the vents in my sweet apartment. It does not have to be big-- gratitude has no minimums.

I think universally, we all head to the bathroom after getting out of bed. But you've made your choice of appreciation, and now you can appreciate being barefoot or your cozy slippers, make a game of it! How many things can you appreciate on your way to the bathroom? You can appreciate having running water to brush teeth, and the feeling of a clean mouth. I like doing my skin care, and sweeping my bathroom, but whatever it is you like to do to freshen up, do this while carrying your sweet choice of appreciation.

Now is time to set the scene. The goal is to make your NOW the most beautiful, most pleasurable now it could possible be with what you have. This could be making a cup of coffee in your favorite mug, or pouring a crisp glass of ice water in a wine glass. Light a candle, fold the blankets left crumpled on the couch, do a light cleaning, or a deep cleaning. It is important to remember, that you are creating this sacred morning for you and your own feeling good. As best as you can, allow these moments to be your moment of watering your inner garden. And you don't need to check your phone yet -- for all the world knows, you are still sleeping. This is when I'll make a smoothie, a coffee, something beautiful to drink. This is when I burn my favorite incense, maybe I put on a crystal bracelet or pendant, or set an amethyst cluster on the table where I will rest my feet as I journal.

Look at you, creating beautiful moments for which to be appreciative!

Morning journaling is not freestyle. It is a moment of gratitude. For this, you will need one notebook that is the designated gratitude journal. Or, find sticky notes or a blank sheet of paper and at the end of each 'session,' put them in a jar to marinate. Whatever you must do, write down something for which you are grateful. With a pen on paper. There is something that happens in our brains when we write things down. Writing is the setting powder of a thought. So write down a full sentance: "This morning I am grateful for..."

And remember, gratitude has no minimums. Maybe you are grateful for this sacred space you've created for yourself. Maybe you are grateful for sleeping in on a Saturday, or the supremely adorable pajama set Santa got you last year. It needs not be a grand accomplishment or approaching event-- though sometimes it will. We are simply building the momentum of appreciation because it feels good. That's the goal, right? We all just want to feel good. So let yourself feel good and write it down. Read what you've written, and let yourself feel good. Feel yourself feeling good. Maybe say to yourself, "look at me in my sacred morning, feeling good."

This is when I meditate, but your sacred morning is yours. Maybe you pray, maybe you write a long list of things for which to be grateful. To be clear, this is not the time to turn on the news. Maybe you ask your AI what the weather is today and put on a cute outfit, but please for the love of sacred mornings, keep it sacred and keep it feeling good. Your sacredity could be enjoying your coffee in silence, or sharing your feeling good with your pet. By now, you know that the goal is to feel good.

The ball is rolling and building upon your feeling good, and now we move to make it more. Now, we are to the grand finale; This is the peak of morning sacredity, and my true favorite part. Now, we move our bodies to feel good. Choose a song, preferably one with either no lyrics, or kind lyrics. A song that makes you feel good, and don't think too much about this -- there will be plenty of opportunities to choose a different song. Close your eyes, and breathe. Be present in your body for this one song, and tell your body you will move it in ways that feel good. It is helpful to be alone, and to avoid mirrors in the beginning, for we want to stay open to the movements our bodies long to pursue. For this one song, move. Feel the inside of your body, acknowledging the trillions of cells within, all with their own individual balance, all well able to achieve that balance. Lift your arms, roll your shoulders or neck, squat down low and move slow, feel yourself feeling good. Feel your body feeling good, and smile to yourself, knowing you've created a beautiful and sacred morning for yourself, and you are feeling good.
