There are no rules to writing

You may have been taught differently, but dare I say, everything the teachers say are lies. Whatever feels good to the writer, goes. If you ask me, there really isn't such a thing as a 'run-on sentance.' If you have the m-dashes and commas where they need to be-- and again, really no rules to these-- everyone is able to follow along, that is, if they are paying attention.
I just like it to sound good. It's kind of the opposite of parents telling their little tot children, 'don't just talk to hear yourself talk.' You should write to experience yourself write. It feels good. And usually, or rather more often than not, I have no idea what I am going to write, as I pick up a pen or open a notebook or a fresh document in Word. When you have the intention to write, the words will come. And I just like it to sound good.
And when it's poetry, sometimes the weirder the better. Or the more secretive the better. Write a love note, or a hate note, or whatever it is you need to get off your chest. Then go back and omit all the prepositions. Swap some pronouns with names of people you've never met, or animals you'd like to pet. Make it your own little secret message to your own inner secret society that only those little rats inside your brain would understand. Randomize the capitalization, put periods and colons where they 'don't belong.' Bold meaningless words to make readers think they matter. Highlight the whole thing and start from scratch. See what I mean? There are no rules. It's all about the experience.
